Supervisor Saylor asked Chris Kelsch, the CEO of Winters Healthcare, to provide an update on their experiences with COVID-19. Chris shared the below:• WHF has been screening and testing since the epidemic began in March• Testing has ramped up in June and July because we have received more tests and PPE.• We are testing outside in our parking lot, while folks stay in their cars, several days a week and they can call for an appointment.• As of last week, due to the surge of testing in the state...at more than 100,000 tests/day has caused two issues:o the turn-around time for results has increased from 2-3 days to 7-10 days.o The number of testing kits we have received has been cut significantlyo We are looking into additional labs to speed the testing results
• We are and will continue to expanding our ability to do testing for local businesses and will work with them to arrange either testing at our facility or at their facility on a case by case basis depending on:o Number of testing kits we have in stocko Number of people that need tests in the businesso Our stock of PPE (which is still good for the time being)o Symptoms of staff and assessment by our providers• We plan to continue our work with the county to have them come out and conduct a “free” COVID testing once a month.• As of July 22 we have completed 223 tests and the positivity rate is 12%....50 tests are still outstanding – This does NOT include the 389 folks that were recently tested by county staff the week before last.If you have additional questions related to Winters Healthcare, you can reach Chris Kelsch at: Ckelsch@wintershealth.org
